Development of Cost-Effective, Ecofriendly Selenium Nanoparticle-Functionalized Cotton Fabric for Antimicrobial and Antibiofilm Activity

In the present study, selenium nanoparticles were synthesized in situ on alkali-activated cotton fabric using guava leaf extract as a reducing agent. The synthesis was monitored by change color of from white to light brick red. UV-DRS analysis confirms coating Se NPs cotton. XRD, FT-IR, and SEM-EDX characterization techniques used analyze fabric. peak at 788 cm−1 FT-IR formation XRD that average crystallite size as-prepared nanoparticle is ~17 nm. shows successful coated ICP-OES studies confirm 3.65 mg/g Se-coated-30 showed larger zone inhibition against Gram-positive S. aureus (32 mm) compared Gram-negative strains E. coli (16 K. pneumoniae (26 mm). also tested fungi C. glabrata (45 mm), tropicalis (35 albicans results indicate it more effective fungal bacterial strains. inhibits biofilm (99%), (78%), (58%). demonstrated excellent antibacterial, antifungal, antibiofilm activities Se-coated-30. prepared has potential be medicinal applications both ecofriendly cost effective.
